On the left is the brain of an 82-year-old patient with a diagnosis of spincocerebellar ataxia, type 6 (SCA6). On the right is the brain of a 96-year-old “control” patient with Alzheimer disease:
Note comparative diminution of the cerebellum in the SCA6 patient.  SCA6 is one several autosomal dominant cerebellar ataxias. SCA6 results from a CAG trinucleotide repeat expansion in the CACNA1A gene on chromosome 19p.

Lakshmi Tatama is an Indian girl born in 2005 in a village in Araria district, Bihar, having “4 arms and 4 legs.” She was actually one of a pair of ischiopagus conjoined twins where one twin was headless due to its head atrophying and chest underdeveloping in the womb, causing an appearance of one child with four arms and four legs.

I’m sure all of you by now have recognized that I’ve been a bit… away. I’m not sure how often I’d still keep up with this blog, but I’ll honestly try.
